Your Inner Committee
Rodd Stockwell, MD
We all have thoughts that roll around in our head throughout the day. Perhaps you are a worrier, worrying about how bad the traffic will be at 5pm. Often these thoughts drop by unannounced and uninvited into our heads. They may even disturb a train of thought you were engaged in.
I think of these thoughts as coming from my inner committee. They sit around the boardroom table and offer me advice about what to focus my attention on. One of my committee members sounds a lot like my mother.
It can be very empowering to realize that you can rearrange the seating around that table at any time. Invite helpful voices to sit front and center--perhaps your Inner Doctor--and place those unhelpful voices over in the corner where they belong.
