Freedom from Anger
Rodd Stockwell, MD
When a situation causes anger, there are two common responses, which do you choose?
The first involves blame. You can blame someone else or you can blame yourself. When you blame, you conclude that the past should have happened differently than it did. "You should have known better and not spilled that milk!" The problem with this approach is that no amount of blame will change the past--it happened already!
The second response is to place your attention on the future. You are angry because you don't want the past to continue to repeat in the future. You are angry because something needs to change now, in the present, so that the future will be different. Your anger is energy, fuel, to get you off the couch of life and MAKE A CHANGE. "How we are pouring the milk in this house is no longer working for me. From now on let's do this differently." If you put all that energy into things you can change--watch how fast your life will change for the better.
